I’ll keep this brief so you can get to the good stuff! These burgers are stupid-easy to make and taste so delicious. I even accidentally gave one to Matt for breakfast this week instead of his actual breakfast (they were both wrapped in tinfoil in the fridge) and he didn’t hate it, hahaha!
On to the topic of pretty food… As I was creating this recipe, which literally came together based on ingredients I had in the fridge that needed to be used, I was thinking about the kind of blogger that I wanted to be. I reflected on the possibility of getting a nice camera and setting up a little studio near the window to be able to take my food pictures in “good lighting”. This truly sounds fun, but I know as soon as it becomes something that I “have” to do, I won’t enjoy it. I continued to contemplate how I could potentially spend a ton of time in the kitchen recipe testing and messing with new combinations of flavors and that also sounds fun, but isn’t something that I want to do (or have the time to do!) as often as I would need to if I wanted to keep this blog consistent.
After all of that pondering, I think that I finally figured out the kind of blogger I want to be. I want to be someone posting REAL pictures of REAL recipes that I actually make and feed to myself and my family. I won’t be spending hours taking hundreds of pictures until I finally get the perfect 7-10 to then spend an additional 3-4 hours editing them for my posts. What you’ll get here is just an (almost) 27 year old who loves to feed people and share about it. You’ll see my imperfectly diced tomatoes, my dirty countertop, and occasionally a picture of something delicious that may not have the best lighting or angle. I want this site to be somewhere my readers can turn to when they’ve had it with the perfectly polished and plated recipes of Instagram and Pinterest. So, here I am. Just me, being me, sharing with you.
jalapeño bacon turkey burgers
makes 4 patties
1 lb organic ground turkey
3 slices pasture raised bacon, cooked & chopped
1 small green pepper, diced
1 jalapeño pepper, diced
1/4 cup red onion, diced
1/2 tsp black pepper
1 tsp salt (I love this brand!)
1-2 tsp garlic powder
1 tbsp healthy cooking fat (I recommend using the leftover bacon grease!)
preheat the oven to 350. grease a baking tray with your cooking fat. I had baked my bacon on a baking sheet and simply used the same pan- it was already greased and meant less dishes to add to my already mountainous pile! in a bowl (or directly on your cutting board) combine all ingredients for the burgers (everything besides the cooking fat) until well combined. form into four medium sized patties and place on the baking tray. once the oven is pre-heated (you will probably finish all of your chopping & mixing beforehand, that’s how simple this recipe is!), place the tray of burgers in there for 15 minutes. flip the burgers and cook for another 15 minutes. If you like them more well done, continue to cook for an additional 3-5 minutes on each side. remove from the oven and allow to cool/rest on the tray for a few minutes before digging in! these are perfect on their own or paired with some Tessemae’s BBQ Sauce or Sir Kensington’s Mustard. Yum!
